Find your exact age in years, months and days – today or as on any date. That second option is what you need for government exams and job applications, which usually set age limits “as on” a cut-off date like 1 January or 1 August.
How age is calculated
- Subtract the birth year from the year of the “as on” date.
- If the birthday hasn’t arrived yet in that year, subtract one year.
- Count the remaining full months and days, borrowing days from the previous month when needed.
The result matches the way exam boards and passport offices calculate age.
Checking exam eligibility
Suppose a recruitment notice says candidates must be 21–30 years old as on 1 August 2026. Enter your date of birth and set “Age as on” to 1 August 2026. You’re eligible if the result is at least 21 years 0 months 0 days and you have not yet turned 31 – most notices treat “30 years” as up to the day before your 31st birthday, but read the notice’s exact wording and check age relaxation for reserved categories.
Fun facts the calculator shows
- Total months, weeks and days you’ve been alive.
- The weekday you were born on.
- How many days until your next birthday.

Age limits you might need to check
- Government exams in India: notices specify minimum and maximum ages “as on” a date, with relaxations for reserved categories, ex-servicemen and persons with disabilities.
- Driving licences: commonly 16–18 depending on country and licence type.
- Retirement and pensions: state pension ages vary – check your country’s official pension service.
- School admissions: many schools set an age as on a cut-off date such as 31 March or 1 September.
Calculating age in Excel or Google Sheets
Use =DATEDIF(A1, B1, "Y") for full years, "YM" for remaining months and "MD" for remaining days, where A1 is the date of birth and B1 the “as on” date. The calculator above gives the same result without formulas.
Age in other units
The calculator also shows total months, weeks and days. Someone who is 30 years old has lived roughly 10,950–10,960 days (depending on leap years) – a fun way to mark milestones such as your 10,000th day, which falls at about 27 years and 4 months.
Chronological vs biological age
This tool measures chronological age – time since birth. “Biological age” estimates based on health markers are a different concept and need medical testing.
Real-life scenarios
- Government job notice: An exam requires candidates aged 18–27 as on 1 August 2026. Someone born on 2 August 1999 is 26 years, 11 months, 30 days – eligible by one day.
- School admission: A school requires children to be 6 years old as on 31 March. A child born on 15 April 2020 is 5 years, 11 months on 31 March 2026 – not yet eligible.
- Insurance and pensions: Many policies use “age last birthday” or “age nearest birthday” – the calculator’s years and months help you work out both.

FAQs
How do I calculate age as on a specific date?
Enter your date of birth and change “Age as on” from today to the required date, for example the cut-off date in a job notification.
Does the calculator count the birth date itself?
Age is counted in completed years, months and days since birth, the same convention used on official documents.
How is age calculated for someone born on 29 February?
In non-leap years, legal systems differ – many treat 1 March as the birthday, some 28 February. The calculator counts full months, so the result changes on 1 March.
